Welcome to
Burgess Childminding

Childminders are regulated and inspected by OFSTED so this gives some assurance to parents that their children are safe. They must also hold valid Public Liabilty Insurance and an up to date Paediatric First Aid Qualification.

About Us
Greetings from Nicky & Paul Burgess,

We are a husband and wife team boasting over twenty-five years of experience, each holding an NVQ3 in Childcare & Education. As OFSTED registered providers, we operate from a secure home setting in Teignmouth, Devon. With our children now grown, we dedicate our full time and attention to the children in our care.

We accommodate children aged 3 months to 12 years, providing childcare services from Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, for 50 weeks of the year. Childcare outside these hours, including bank holidays and weekends, may be available upon request. Our offerings include full-time and term-time contracts, as well as childcare throughout the school holidays.

We provide fully funded places starting from 9 months of age, and accept the Early Years Entitlement for 3 and 4-year-olds, as well as Employer Childcare Vouchers.
Our OFSTED reports have consistently been positive. We are known for our caring, safe, and enjoyable home environment, where we offer a range of activities designed to educate, engage, and entertain children of all ages.
Our Setting
Our home boasts a spacious layout, including two large rooms dedicated to childminding during weekdays. This arrangement provides ample space for children to play and enjoy themselves, with the convenience of leaving toys out for the next day.

The primary toy room is well-stocked with a diverse selection of toys and educational materials, while the second room offers a tranquil setting for quiet activities like reading and resting.

The property features a sizeable front garden, securely enclosed and distinct from the driveway with a wooden fence. Children can engage in a wide array of outdoor activities throughout the year, thanks to a sheltered area that's accessible in any weather. This section includes a substantial ball pit and a soft play zone. Adjacent to this, we have an additional covered space where children can indulge in water and sand play. Moreover, there's an expansive area where they can run around and revel in fun activities.

Background

November 2020, the government announced that the Holiday, Activities and Food (HAF) programme would be expanded across the whole of England in 2021. Following on from this, the Department of Education has agreed a further three years of funding, starting 2022. The programme has provided healthy food and enriching activities to disadvantaged children since 2018. The programme will cover Easter, Summer and Christmas holidays in each of the three years. The programme will be available to children in every local authority in England. School holidays can be particularly difficult for some families because of increased costs and reduced incomes. For some children that can lead to a holiday experience gap, with children from disadvantaged families: * less likely to access organised out-of-school activities * more likely to experience 'unhealthy holidays' in terms of nutrition and physical health * more likely to experience social isolation. Free holiday clubs are a response to this issue and evidence suggests that they can have a positive impact on children and young people and that they work best whey they: * provide consistent and easily accessible enrichment activities * cover more than just breakfast or lunch * involve children (and parents) in food preparation Local authorities have been asked to ensure that the offer of free holiday club provision is available for all children eligible for and in receipt of benefits-related Free School Meals (FSMs) in their area. Devon County Council recognise and greatly value the important role that schools, childminders, community and voluntary organisations can play in delivering this programme and are keen to work with a wide range of partners to maximise resources and opportunities in the development of a county-wide HAF programme.

Aim of HAF Programme

Having secured funding from the Department of Education to arrange a programme of school holiday-time activities, Devon County Council is working with local providers to coordinate a programme of free activities and healthy meals for the school holidays for children and young people. The aim of the scheme is to support children to eat more healthily, be more active over the school holidays and have a greater knowledge of health and nutrition as well as being more engaged with school and other local services. The children who take part will enjoy fun and enriching activities in a safe and sociable environment and have the opportunity to develop new skills or knowledge and try out new experiences. At least one meal per day will be included and the children will improve their knowledge and awareness of healthy eating.
